BIG PRINTS – new digital camera images have now surpassed the quality of film (not to say the silver-halide art form isn't still deserving of its rightful place – and certainly photographers like Clyde Butcher will maintain the art form) and the large megapixel digital cameras matched with large format printers allow our walls to display a photographic representation that looks and feels much like a painting.
Last year I discovered a true photographic print with vivid, brilliant color surpassing any I have viewed. The print process at Allied Photographic in Grand Rapids, Michigan, begins with a “true photographic print”. Photographic paper is exposed to laser activation in complete darkness and then processed with standard wet chemistry. The plastic emulsion layer is then stripped from the photographic paper and impressed onto canvas with a specialized mounting press. The resulting image of up to thirty six by fifty four inches is carefully mounted to a support frame yielding a stunning work of art that everyone will be proud to display. The image can be framed to match any interior, with or without glass as it has a UV protective coating applied to it.
Inkjet Giclees have become an exciting form of expression for modern photography. Large format inkjet printers produce a splendid textured image on canvas. The canvas is then mounted on a wood frame and wrapped two inches around the sides. The wrap-around gives a unique depth in its extended view. Visually this print surface resembles a painting as much as it does a photograph. The archival inkjet print is UV coated and will last one hundred plus years. These images can be produced in sizes up to thirty six by fifty four inches.
ALL OF MY PHOTOGRAPHY CAN BE PRODUCED AS BOTH “TRUE PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINTS” OR INKJET GICLEE WRAPS.
AS THE PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINT IS LABOR INTENSIVE ITS PRICE IS SLIGHTLY HIGHER.
